I read about every GPS logger on Amazon and was hoping this was the right one.

Problems that caused me to return it:

-Despite some claims that the batteries lasts 3 weeks, mine lasted 2 days before the red battery light went on

-Very difficult to get a satellite lock, at least in NYC. I went on top of a building and was able to get a lock. After this, I walked several miles and downloaded the data. It jumped around way too much and was missing lots of data as well

-Device packaging is low quality. The screw holes are little wings of plastic that come somewhat broken. Not great considering you have to take the batteries out anytime you want to turn it off and the battery life is bad

-Software is for Windows only

-I called customer support and they weren’t very helpful. Suggested pretty quickly that I might need to return the device to the seller if I’m not getting a sat lock.

The product advertises no hidden fees — but that’s not quite true. If you cancel within 12-months of activation, early termination fee of $100. On top of that, they will turn your device into brick and you won’t be able to pass it on for someone else to use.

It’s a decent product, but the poor contracting makes it difficult to like.

This is the one you’re looking for. Now I KNOW where my teenager daughter is, and how fast she’s driving. Very reasonable at $300. Very reasonable at $15 a month unlimited tracking. When they get where they’re going, you arm it on the internet or with your cell phone. When they get in the car to go (motion detector), it sends a text to your cell phone. When they go 200 yards, you get another text. You can track them on an iPhone or computer. You can even request an address with your cell phone via text and get the address in a minute or two. These folks thought of everything.

Figure on three days of battery time. I’m going to hard-wire mine when she goes out of town next week. Easy.

Buy this.

Gone are the days when we tell our customers to wait until noon for the goods to get delivered or give them ridiculous estimates on the time of delivery. If we want things done at the spur of the moment, so do our customers.

This is definitely not good customer service. If it’s not you, the customers have hundreds of better options out there. So if you want to keep up in business then you have to improve your customer service. So next time a customer calls to ask when should they expect the goods to be delivered, all you need to do is look into your GPS vehicle tracking system records and find out how far is the vehicle from the customer’s site.

You can then give them precise time of the delivery. So now instead of putting the customer on hold, and calling the service technician to find out the approximate time of delivery, you can just look into your system and tell them the exact time. They are sure to appreciate your promptness.
You need to give your customers outstanding service to stay in the business. And for that you need to use the latest technology so that you can deliver to the best of your ability. If you don’t, someone else will, and you will surely lag behind in this competitive world.

Types of GPS Vehicle Tracking

June 15, 2009

We all are aware of GPS vehicle tracking systems but did you know there are three types of these tracking devices? Cellular-based tracking, wireless-passive tracking and real-time satellite based tracking. Let us see the pros and cons of each of these tracking systems.

Cellular-based tracking

  • The main advantage of this type of tracking system is its low cost as compared to the other types. It cost somewhere around $500. It uses the local cell phone network (GSM/GPRS) to track the vehicle details and you can get the updates in every five minutes. You can get this information through internet for a monthly cost of around $35.
  • The main disadvantage is that this GPS vehicle tracking system will not be able to record any information if the vehicle is in a low or no network area of your service provider.

Wireless-passive tracking

  • The main advantage of this type of GPS vehicle tracking system is that it is a one-time investment. You don’t have to pay monthly fees for the information provided by the GPS carrier. But the system setup is a bit expensive with the hardware and software installation going up to around $1500.
  • The major of this system is that you can view the records only after the vehicle returns to the owner or the company base. So it’s not of any help if the vehicle is lost or stolen. However people have started installing wireless modems to these devices to view the tracking information even without the memory card from the GPS system in the vehicle.
  • This extra gadget also helps the wireless-passive tracking system to collect other information such as vehicle’s speed, stops made and other detailed information. With this additional device, many companies find wireless-passive tracking a better option as there are no monthly costs involved.

Satellite-based real time tracking

  • The main advantage of this GPS vehicle tracking system that works nation-wide so you can track the details of your vehicle anywhere in the country. This system is best for shipping and trucking companies who send their fleet across the country. The setup cost of this system is around $700 with a monthly fees ranging from $5 to $100, depending on the details of the information provided to the company.
  • The main disadvantage is that this system does not give detailed information. So if you want to know minute details of your vehicle’s location, direction or speed, this system is not the best one.

Most people only think of GPS for cars and trucks but another type of GPS that you can get is motorcycle GPS. GPS for motorcycles can be great those that have delivery services that use motorcycles such as pizzerias and shipping companies. They are also great for non-business people who just want a GPS device to help them get around on their motorcycle.

You need to know your budget and requirements before choosing a tracking system that best suits your business. There are other advancements in the tracking system industry which you can research online. With a little bit of investment on tracking systems you can improve your business and take it to a whole new level.
